There are three manufacturing methods for aluminum alloy wheels: gravity casting, forging, and low-pressure precision casting.
1. Gravity casting method uses gravity to pour aluminum alloy solution into the mold, and after forming, it is processed and polished by a lathe to complete production. The manufacturing process is relatively simple, does not require precision casting technology, has low cost and high production efficiency, but is prone to producing bubbles (sand holes), uneven density, and insufficient surface smoothness. A considerable number of Geely models are equipped with wheel hubs produced using this method, mainly early production models, and many new models have been replaced with new wheel hubs.
2. The entire aluminum ingot of the forging method is directly extruded onto the mold by a thousand ton press, with the advantages of uniform density, smooth and fine surface, thin and lightweight wheel hub walls, and the highest material strength, which is more than 30% higher than the casting method. However, due to the need for advanced production equipment and a yield rate of only 50-60%, the manufacturing cost is relatively high.
3. The low-pressure precision casting method is used for precision casting at low pressures of 0 and 1Mpa. This casting method has good formability, clear contours, uniform density, smooth surface, and can achieve high strength, lightweight, and cost control. Moreover, the finished product is over 90%, making it the mainstream manufacturing method for high-quality aluminum alloy wheels.
