The basic steps to replace a forklift wheel include parking, jacking up the forklift, removing the old wheel, and installing the new wheel. These steps require the proper tools and some mechanical knowledge. Here are the detailed steps:
Parking and preparing the work area:
Park the forklift on a flat, hard surface and turn off the engine so that the forklift is unloaded.
Use the parking brake to stop the wheels for safety.
Jack up the forklift with a jack:
According to the position of the tire to be replaced (drive wheel or steering wheel), support the jack in the appropriate position. For example, when replacing the drive tire, support the jack at the side position of the front of the frame; when replacing the steering tire, support the jack at the center of the rear bracket of the rear axle.
Use the jack to jack up the forklift slightly so that the tire is still in contact with the ground, then unscrew the bolts that secure the inflation tube, remove the clip, and loosen the hub nut.
Next, use the jack to fully support the forklift, unscrew the hub nut, and remove the tire.
Install the new wheel:
The order of installing the new wheel is the opposite of the removal order. Make sure the tightening torque of the wheel nut reaches the specified value.
After installation, check whether the tire is inflated to the specified value and run a short distance to check whether the bolts of each part are tightened.
